Richard has been with horses all his life as his parents ran a riding school on their farm and he learnt to ride from a very young age. He had his own ponies as he grew up, learning to care for them as well as ride them at local shows and gymkhanas. He produced horses to County standard for showing and show jumping. His father then taught him driving and he competed at county level in driving classes, going on to win at HOYS as a young man. His mother bred palominos and his sister bred and produced Arabs.
His father started Spragg Saddlery in 1976 with his first shop in Walton-on-Thames where Richard joined him in the business. They later moved to a larger shop in West Byfleet as the business expanded. Their trade stand was well known at major shows countrywide including Olympia, Hickstead, South of England, Surrey County, Bath & West, Royal Welsh and Royal Windsor.
Over 25 years ago Richard studied under Keith Luxford Master Saddler and President of The Society of Master Saddlers at the time. When his father retired Richard decided to change the business and now runs a top quality mobile saddlery supply and fitting business, together with his wife, Barbara.
